We are delighted to announce the outstanding individuals who have been selected to participate in our scientific communication initiative ‘The Word of Mass Spectrometry.’ After a thorough review of all applications, we have identified the following accomplished individuals (the order is alphabetical):

  • Exosomes in action
  • Leukotrienes (LTs) belong to the group of eicosanoids within the fatty acyls. Their name derives from the cells they are synthesized by, leukocytes, and their structure. The structure is based on eicosanoic acid, a twenty carbon atoms long hydrocarbon chain with a carboxyl group. The chain contains four double bonds of which three are in conjugation. This corresponds to their name ending -trienes. The hydrocarbon chain of LTs can contain further double bonds and oxygen containing substituents. Leukotrienes exert hormone-like functions. They interact with G-protein-linked receptors on the cell surface to activate signal transduction pathways inside the cell. Specifically, LTs act on cardiovascular, respiratory systems and are important mediators in inflammation. Interested?
