The potential use of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the development of modern therapeutics solutions is highly promising, but the standardization, yield, and reproducibility of their preparation methods is still challenging.
A highly efficient and reproducible method for preparing monodisperse nano plasma membrane vesicles (nPMVs) has been described in the recent paper. This method yields 10 to 100 times more particles per cell and hour than conventional EV preparation methods.
Proteomics and lipidomics of these two different EV types indicated substantial differences. These results suggest that nPMVs primarily deriving from apoptotic extracellular vesicles.
