A recent study evaluates if dysregulation of plasma lipidome is a characteristic feature of chronic inflammatory diseases.
Researchers analyzed plasma samples from 427 individuals, including control, ischemic stroke, systemic lupus erythematosus groups, and a heterogeneous group of cardiovascular diseases. A total of 596 lipids were identified and quantified, and further machine-learning techniques were applied to this dataset, aiming to distinguish diseases from each other and the control group.
Built classifiers allowed to distinguish cardiovascular diseases from ischemic stroke and systemic lupus erythematosus group with great sensitivity and specificity. Finally, the separation of cardiovascular disease subclasses was also achieved.
