According to WHO (who.int), cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. This includes conditions such as coronary heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. These diseases are responsible for over 17.9 million deaths each year, accounting for 31% of all global deaths.
The risk factors for cardiovascular disease include tobacco use, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and harmful use of alcohol. Additionally, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes also contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease.
WHO states that effective interventions and policies can significantly reduce the burden of these diseases, and encourages countries to implement measures such as promoting healthy diets, increasing physical activity, and reducing tobacco and alcohol consumption.
