As you may have seen from our previous posts, our colleagues at Lipotype enjoy a wide range of hobbies, from playing instruments and traveling to drawing, playing sports, and more. You might wonder how we know about all these diverse interests of our colleagues. The answer is simple: we often enjoy our hobbies together outside of work if we can. We are also very happy when others share their stories with us.
For instance, music lovers join our Lipoband practice sessions, food enthusiasts take part in group cooking activities like making kimchi or mandoo, and sports fans run marathons or compete in our internal ping pong tournaments together. In this post, we’d like to walk you through the sports activities Lipotypers have organized or joined.
REWE Team Challenge

For several weeks this year and last year, a signup sheet hung in the Lipotype office to recruit runners for the REWE Team Challenge. Colleagues who were interested added their names and joined the Lipotype teams named ‘FastyAcids’ (to honor fatty acids) and ‘TurboAcylGlycerols’ (to honor triacylglycerols). Together, they completed the 5-kilometer run, earned a certificate and tons of support from colleagues for it! The race showed us just how much we can achieve together through teamwork and shared effort.
Dresden Marathon
Dresden Marathon is also a running event where people run through Dresden’s historic landmarks and beautiful Elbe River paths, first started in 1999. Running a full marathon is extremely challenging, but with like-minded colleagues by your side and sharing the kilometers together, it becomes doable.
Three Lipotypers teamed up for a relay and ran the full distance of the Dresden marathon. We are so happy to see that with teamwork, what once felt like a tough challenge can turn into a fun and rewarding experience! Grzegorz Chwastek, Lipotype’s Senior Product Manager, participated in the run and later shared that it was the kind of event where everyone pushes themselves, with a great atmosphere and friends and colleagues cheering along with the race!

Beach Volleyball

When it comes to sports activities at Lipotype, we can’t forget the iconic beach volleyball game! Every summer when the weather is nice, we regularly go to play beach volleyball at a place called Citybeach Dresden. Though Dresden doesn’t have a beach, the fine sand and real palm trees that the retreat offers provide an authentic beach feeling. It is a wonderful chance for our colleagues to unwind and enjoy some fun in the sun.
Walking and Hiking Together

Hiking was one of our team activities at the annual team in 2024. We spent a great day in the mountains in Tisa, the Czech Republic. Some of us took a relaxing walk in nature, while others hiked up higher trails to enjoy the view, depending on each person’s pace and comfort level.
One tip to keep in mind to make any outdoor activities fun and successful? Don’t forget to pack wisely, stay hydrated, and watch out for mosquito bites!
Which lipid is responsible for the itchiness from a mosquito bite?
Leukotrienes are part of a group of signaling lipids called eicosanoids. They’re not solely to blame, but they do play a role in non-histaminergic pathways that contribute to the itch that follows a mosquito bite.

Lipong: A Ping Pong Tournament

Did you know that there is a ping pong table in the Lipotype office? The history goes back to several years ago when Lipotypers enjoyed playing ping pong at a team event. After finding out a lot of people like ping pong, Lipotype bought a real ping pong table so people can play it in between the breaks at the office.
Inspired by this, we also had a ping pong tournament! Lipong was the name of the ping pong tournament Lipotypers took part in either as a player or an audience. The event was organized by a voluntary committee called L.O.A (Lipong Organizing Association), made up of four Lipotype colleagues: Martin Richter, Jeongeun Chae, Magdalena Sworowska, and Nicolas Frölich. Magda and Nicolas, from the data science team, created a fantastic Excel sheet to track the winners of each round. During Happy Hour, a fun (yet serious) tournament was held to determine the overall champion. Not only were there games to decide the first, second, and third place winners, but there was also a special “golden pineapple” match. It was played between the two participants with the lowest scores. The person who scored last won a real pineapple wrapped around in golden paper!
Wrapping up…
You don’t need to be an expert to attend Lipotype’s (sports) events even though we do have some participants who are sports experts, including a Germany Championships in Run Archery winner, Grzegorz! What truly matters is that we’re in it together, having fun, and enjoying the experience. We hope this post inspires you to share the things you love with others and create memorable experiences together.
