A recent publication introduces the term ‘lipotype’ and uses it to reflect singularity and heritability properties of lipid configuration. The authors propose that “lipotypes are linked to cell identity by a two-way relationship, in which lipotypes are both a consequence and a component of differentiation programmes that lead to the emergence of cell types”.
