As a pioneer in the field of lipidomics, Lipotype not only provides lipidomic analysis services to customers but also contributes to science through carrying out its own research. On March 3rd, a study titled “Lipid profiling can predict risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease decades before onset” from Dr. Christian Lauber and colleagues has been published in the open-access journal PLOS Biology. This longitudinal study demonstrates that lipidomic profiling in the blood can predict risk for type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Such a finding provides a basis for the question of what efforts should be made to prevent T2D and CVD, as well as suggests blood lipidome is a reliable indicator of a person’s health status.
